2VR-TimCover I have just finished reading a short book by Tom Fitzgerald titled Time to Say Goodbye. This book is a  well thought out plan to divide the United States into Blue and Red regions, reasons for which are evident every election cycle. He lists 24 main issues from abortion to wealth distribution that these populations just don’t agree on.

Tom touches on many topics near and dear to Vermont secessionists and also offers a government for the Blue states that echos the Swiss canton model often cited in works by Frank Bryan and Thomas Naylor: conscription for public office, term limits for all offices, the end of career politicians and the like. Readers who are seeing these ideas for the first time may like Tom’s reasoning and game plan, but view it as fantasy. Vermonters for secession have heard these arguments before. In the end Tom poses the same  question we all ask, “How long are we willing to be subject to an ever more abusive system of governance that has no chance of getting better?”

His answer: Time to say goodbye!

Proponents for the 2nd Vermont Republic could not agree more.
