2017 “Vermonter” Poll: 

22% of Vermonters Support Vermont Independence and a 2^nd Vermont Republic (2VR)

According to newly released 2017 “Vermonter” poll numbers collected by the University of Vermont’s Center for Rural Studies, support for Vermont independence and an independent Vermont republic is now at an all-time high, with 22% of Vermonters indicating their desire to peaceably “absent” themselves from the United States and re-create Vermont as an independent republic, as it was from 1777-1791.

“When we last surveyed Vermonters in 2007, 13% indicated their support for an independent Vermont republic,” explains Rob Williams, publisher of The Vermont Independent news journal, the organization that partnered with UVM’s Center for Rural Studies to conduct the poll during February 2017. “Given the aggressive and destructive behavior of the United States of Empire this past decade, it is not surprising that more and more forward-thinking Vermonters support independence and a 2^nd Vermont republic.”

The two questions asked of Vermonters by UVM’s Center for Rural Studies this year included:

1) Is the federal government adequately serving the needs and concerns of Vermonters? 

 67% of Vermonters polled answered NO.

2) Should Vermont consider peaceably leaving the United States and becoming an independent republic, as it was from 1777 to 1791? 

 22% of Vermonters polled answered YES.
