Publisher’s Note: Thoughtful “take” on Vermont’s response to the “global coronavirus pandemic” in the New Yorker magazine from 350.org co-founder and environmentalist Bill McKibben. We flag his use of the Red/Blue manufactured false binary, and challenge his implicit “the virus science is settled so let’s just trust the experts” argument here, as our three part COVID EMPIRE series explains in much more detail. However, we celebrate Mr. McKibben’s emphasis on Vermont’s high levels of “social trust” – neighbors helping and respecting neighbors, regardless of our race, class, or political affiliation, given the tidal wave of misinformation, pseudo-science and 24/7 COVID fear porn being pumped into our national MSM’s bloodstream every day. Given McKibben’s observations, it makes this Vermonter wonder why we need to mandate mask wearing from Montpelier, as our ongoing observations indicate that Vermonters and our visitors are working out the details at the grassroots store by store and town by town level. Food for thought. Read on. Enjoy high summer in our 2nd Vermont Republic!
