Publisher’s Note: Honored to be included in this exciting new 2020 Project Censored documentary film entitled “United States of Distraction: Fighting the Fake News Invasion.” Stay tuned!
Dear Project Censored Allies and Supporters!
We are happy to share with you an advance version of Project Censored’s newest documentary film, United States of Distraction: Fighting the Fake News Invasion, edited and narrated by Abby Martin of The Empire Files, filmed by a stellar team of students from several colleges in the San Francisco Bay Area working with Nolan Higdon and Project Censored. We are ever grateful to all who helped bring this project to fruition, including the producers and filmmakers of our last documentary from 2013, “Project Censored the Movie: Ending the Reign of Junk Food News,” Christopher Oscar and Doug Hecker, and executive producers Richard and Janet Oscar.
Film description:
“United States of Distraction: Fighting The Fake News Invasion” chronicles critical media literacy and faculty experts, students, and media makers that provide contextual analysis for understanding the current rise of the so-called “fake news” phenomenon. In addition to deconstructing fake news, the film reminds us that this is not a new development, but rather, it is a form of propaganda. The interviews provided in the film offer solutions for mitigating the pernicious influence of false content on America’s democratic institutions.
We are sharing this advance version of the film with a handful of the Project’s key contributors and people in the film in hopes that you might consider hosting a screening at your campus or in your community once the final version is ready in early 2020. Enjoy the film and please let us know you might be willing to host a local screening sometime next year.
Many thanks to you all for your tireless efforts working for press freedom and critical media literacy education! We hope to hear from you all soon and we hope to set up many showings in the new year!
With best regards,
Mickey Huff, Andy Lee Roth, and Nolan Higdon
