Listen to political theorist Tom Woods make an eloquent case for nonviolent secession in Texas last week. Curious, that both right-leaning and left-leaning thinkers are taking a much closer look at secession than ever before. It is indeed time to “rip up the 3×5 card,” as Woods hilariously suggests in his eloquent 25 minute excoriation of mainstream media gatekeeping in the U.S. of Empire. Or, to take it back to the great 19th century Frenchman Alexis de Tocqueville: “The Union was formed by the voluntary agreement of the States; and in uniting together they have not forfeited their nationality, nor have they been reduced to the condition of one and the same people. If one of the states chooses to withdraw from the compact, it would be difficult to disprove its right of doing so, and the Federal Government would have no means of maintaining its claims directly either by force or right.” de Tocqueville’s words take on new meaning in the 21st century, as individuals states find themselves at the mercy of an overextended, bloated, corrupt U.S. of Empire. Free Vermont, and long live the Untied States!
