Volunteers Needed Monday
I hope by now you have heard what’s happening at the State House on Monday. We’ve been calling, texting, posting to Facebook, stopping just short of smoke signals and carrier pigeons. The word is out – and lots of you have made the commitment to come. This is exciting.
With more than 20 Republican Electoral College electors considering voting their conscience rather than voting for Trump, concerned citizens from across the country will protest on Monday, December 19 in all 50 state capitals to voice their dissatisfaction with the 2016 election. These unprecedented nationwide protests, organized by the December 19 coalition, coincides with the convening of the Electoral College.
Protesters will be urging Electoral College members to respect the will of the people and reject Trump to vote for the winner of the national popular vote. Donald Trump lost the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes and with strong evidence from U.S. intelligence agencies linking Trump’s victory to interference by the Russian government, this only further debunks claims to any “mandate” Trump may assert.
Here in Vermont, we have passed a law already that requires our electors to vote with the people. Since Clinton won Vermont by a large margin, they will be voting for her. The goal of our action in Vermont is to stand with the rest of the country saying that Trump should not be president.
The number of people who will be coming to our action at the State House means that we will need more volunteers to step up and help. We need help with registration, photography, video, and peace marshals. So far, several of you have been making calls and helping with outreach – thank you so much! Monday. the rubber hits the road and we need to work as a team to make it happen.
We also encourage people to be creative and bring banners and signs that align with our core messages of One person, One vote, Stop Trump, and Abolish the Electoral College. Ben Eastwood in Montpelier has volunteered to make a banner printer available Sunday afternoon for people who want to make signs. Stay tuned to the Facebook page for the time and place:
